What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analog that works as a growth hormone (GH) secretagogue: it stimulates the production and release of your body's own GH, the same way your natural GHRH does.

As we age, the body produces less and less of its vital hormones, including GH — and the changes show up as lower energy, poorer sleep, softer muscle tone and slower recovery. Studies have shown that sermorelin can restore GH RNA concentrations to youthful levels, which in turn stimulates the production of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1).

GHRH

Same signal your body uses

Sermorelin's sequence matches endogenous GHRH, so it triggers GH release through the normal pathway.

29

Amino acids

A peptide made of the first 29 amino acids of the natural hormone — the active portion that drives GH secretion.

GH → IGF-1

Restores youthful levels

Raising GH raises IGF-1, the growth factor behind metabolism, recovery, lean mass and skin quality.

Sermorelin vs. synthetic HGH

Sermorelin is an hGH-based therapy, so the aim is the same as hGH treatment: elevate GH, which raises IGF-1. The difference is how GH goes up — and that difference matters for safety.

Sermorelin

Stimulates your own production

  • Prompts the pituitary to release GH in its natural pulsatile rhythm
  • Keeps the pituitary regularly stimulated and working
  • GH enters the bloodstream the way it's meant to
  • Greatly reduced potential for side effects
  • Same intended results as hGH therapy
Synthetic HGH

Replaces GH from outside

  • Direct administration of synthetic hGH
  • Can interfere with normal GH production
  • Improper administration can lead to pituitary atrophy
  • Bypasses the body's natural release pattern
  • Higher side-effect potential

Individual results vary. These are outcomes patients and studies have reported; your clinician will set expectations based on your labs and health history.

Sermorelin FAQs

Is sermorelin the same as HGH?

No. Both aim to raise growth hormone and IGF-1, but synthetic HGH is administered directly, while sermorelin signals your own pituitary to produce GH. That keeps release in its natural rhythm and keeps the gland active, which is why sermorelin is considered the safer route with far less side-effect potential.

How is sermorelin taken?

It's a small self-administered injection, prescribed and dosed by your MedShape clinician. Patients in Arizona and Minnesota can visit a clinic; everyone else is treated by telehealth with medication shipped to them.

How soon will I notice a difference?

Most people notice better sleep, energy and stamina in the first month. Body-composition changes — less belly fat, more muscle tone, better skin and hair — typically show from month two onward and keep building with continued therapy.

Who is sermorelin for?

Adults who've noticed the changes that come with declining GH: lower energy, poorer sleep, stubborn belly fat, loss of muscle tone, slower recovery, reduced focus or drive. Suitability is determined by a licensed clinician after reviewing your health history and any needed labs.

Can I combine sermorelin with a weight loss program?

Yes — many MedShape patients pair sermorelin with a GLP-1 program (semaglutide or tirzepatide) or with other peptides. Your clinician will design the combination around your goals.
